Introduction to myself
My name is Nicholas Rodriguez. I am from San Diego, California, and am of Mexican, and Dominican (and some other things) decent, can speak only very limited Spanish. I am hoping to learn more Spanish for my family to be able to speak to them much easier. Spanish to me means my culture, I am of mainly Spanish decent. Learning more than one language is important to me because it could create many more opportunities in the future. A topic that I want to learn about is how the Spanish became such a big power, and I am excited to learn more about the Spanish culture in general.
I sing to you poem
This is my poem I made for my peer Darrica in my class. It is all about the many things she told me about herself while I interviewed her.
This is the art piece for my partner Darrica.
Borderline Cases: Pictures that Enlighten and Words that Deceive
In this project, we looked at the crisis happening in Central America right now. We learned all about the horrible things going on in central america and why people are migrating to the United States and fleeing their countries down there. We then made art pieces focused on 5 essential project questions. These questions were:
- What are the things essential to achieve success in the US?
- Is the American Dream real? Is it for everyone?
- Why do people immigrate to other countries?
- What are the challenges they might face when entering a new country?
- What is the difference between acculturation and assimilation?
I chose the question of "What are the things essential to achieve success in the US?" I chose this question because it also sort of related to the American Dream. I sort of just explained in my piece some of the things need to succeed in the US. I thought it was very interesting and different from the other art pieces. I had about three drafts, but they all had the same concept and idea.
