During this project we we're able to achieve getting badges, which were used as evidence of learning during the project. Industrial Revolution History Badge: During this project we learned lot's about the history of the Industrial Revolution, such as where it came from, how it started, etc. We were taught a new subject about the industrial revolution everyday, like how child labor was brought into it, and the way different social classes happened. We also learned a lot about capitalism and communism. We would do simulations to also help us better understand the industrial revolution. An example of one of the simulations was with the artisans and factory workers. Where we were put into two separate groups, the Artisans, and the Factory workers and instructed to create paper airplanes. The workers were given orders and had to make their paper airplanes at a fast rate, while the artisans did not have any orders and were able to work at their own rate. The workers did make more planes, but had lower quality while the Artisans had high quality planes. Steampunk Badge: To get the steam punk badge, we had to create our steam punk costume and get it approved by actual steampunkers that came in to help us. In order to get the costume approved, we had to get a score of 7 or higher. If it is was lower than 7, it would not get approved and you would have to continue steampunking it. My costume was approved on the first try luckily with a scores of eights and nines. But soon after it was approved, it all began to fall apart since most of the items were glued on and I was not able to wear it since it no longer looked steampunk, and more like a modern high fashion outfit. Soldering Badge: Soldering was a fun skill to learn during this project, but also a hard one. It took me about 4 tries before I was finally able to get this badge because all my other attempts always had one little mistake on them, But I was very patient and continued to try until I was finally able to achieve creating a perfect looking one. Work and Energy Badge: For this badge, we had to learn all about work and energy. We had to do a lot of math to get this badge. We practiced a lot of energy related math. We had problems based on energy, and the amount of work it would take for someone to do something. We then had to take 2 tests to finally get this badge. Circuit Badge: To get this badge, we had to join a website named project ignite. On this website, we were able to learn about how to create a circuit in three tutorials that were 30 minutes long each. After I became a expert on creating these circuit simulations on the website we were given the real circuits. We had to put together these circuits knowing everything that we learned from project ignite. It was much harder than the actual simulation, there was many errors while trying it in real life. But eventually I understood what was wrong and was able to complete it. Thesis Essay Badge: This badge was very simple. We were each allowed to choose our own topic on a issue that is happening in the world that started from the industrial revolution. Once we had this topic chosen, we had time to research it and get a better understanding of it. We then had to write a 5 paragraph essay on it with a thesis statement in it. I plagiarized a bit in the first attempt on this, but on the second attempt I was able to come back with a very strong essay with everything in my own words. Acting Badge: The acting badge was probably the easiest to achieve. Mostly everyday in class we would do acting excercises at the beginning of class to help us to get in character for exhibition. This was something that was very embarrassing for everyone, but we were all able to get more comfortable with each other from doing this. Since we were doing it a lot, we were able to actually begin to feel more good about being our character for exhibition. Stitching Badge: In art we learned how to stitch things, and the different types of stitches. We learned this so we could maybe stitch items on our costumes. In order to actually get this badge though, we had to learn and then perform different types of stitches on pieces of cloth. There was many types stitches to do. My personal favorite stitch to create was the straight stitch, since it was the simplest one to do, and could be used for many different things. Perseverance Badge: Perseverance was something that I saw a ton happening in this project with me. My group and I knew our kart would fail about a month in, but we continued to try and create something to show. Everyday we did not give up, we persevered on getting our vision done. It did fail at the end, but we were given another chance to create something else. We ended up creating a timeline to show at exhibition about the industrial revolution. We did this while painting walls, and putting walls up. So I would say I persevered through this whole project to get something done everytime. Cooperation Badge: My group and I had one of the hardest things to create. We had to make a working go-kart, so that means cooperation was strongly need during this. We had many problems while creating this, but we were all able to come together and know what we had to do to achieve what we had visions. Althought our cart did fail, we were able to become more comfortable with each other, and we did not fail because of the lack of cooperation, it was mainly the lack of us not setting reminders with our teachers to get materials. |
