This is the walk that I would take to get to internship each day. I could have just taken my car a little further and gotten dropped off there, but I enjoyed the little cardio that came with it everyday and the scenery around it.
This is the entrance of my internship site. My fellow interns and I would wait in front of here each morning for about five or ten minutes waiting for a staff member to unlock the doors.
For my first week I mainly helped reorganize things and clean up around the space. Here I was reorganizing the AV Room because it was a mess.
This is how the San Diego Art Institute would look every morning before all of the actual lights were turned on.
Here is where I learned how to package art work that was being sent back to an artist that showcased their art at San Diego Art Institute. We would wrap the art in a special type of wrapping sheet, and then tape it all together.
This is my internship project. It is a room with lot's of random junk in it from previous exhibitions that is going to be turned into a screening room for a event the San Diego Art Institute is having to screen a short film created by a local artist. It would soon after become a residency room for a artist.
Whenever I would not meal-prep, I would just UBEReats something fast and cheap nearby. This is from a nearby Japanese place that I later regretted because of all the grease it had which hurt my stomach.
There was lot's of old artwork that was going to be thrown out because it was never claimed. Some pieces weren't very nice, but others that were going to be thrown out were amazing pieces of art. These are a couple that we saved and kept.
My internship project finally got started and we were preparing for the event that was going to happen. We began moving everything out to clear the space.
This a meeting that all of the interns were having to discuss another internship project that we were working on in which we were developing a "Teen Program" for the San Diego Art Institute.
The screening room was almost finished here and was being prepared for the screening that was taking place the following day. The paint was drying for the screen.
At the San Diego Art Institute, on the third Tuesday during each month, they have "Free Tuesday" in which admission to the Institute is free to all San Diego residents. On this day, it was really packed inside with over 200+ people coming in.
The event for the screening of the short film made by a local artist was finally taking place. The Institute closed early, and this was a members only event. It was very successful.
Groups of kids from local elementary school had a field trip to the San Diego Art Institute. Some of these kids had never been to Balboa Park before.
Leaving the San Diego Art Institute was kind of sad. It was a very enjoyable experience. I built new relationships, learned more about art and much more. It will forever stay with me.
